Creighton economist says health care law ruling reduces some uncertainty, but will drive up costs

A Creighton University economist says the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Affordable Care Act reduces some uncertainty for businesses.

The Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that the federal government can’t directly compel individuals to buy health insurance. Those who don’t buy health insurance will pay a tax.

Boswell, Latham open campaign offices in Council Bluffs

The candidates for Iowa’s Third Congressional District are reaching out to voters in Council Bluffs.

 

Republican Tom Latham opened his Council Bluffs campaign office Friday afternoon. Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District was eliminated after the 2010 Census and redistricting. Voters in Pottawattamie and Mills counties are now in the Third District.

Election Commission proposes adding, changing precincts before November election

The Douglas County Election Commission wants to add 30 precincts and make changes to 69 others before the November election.

Election Commissioner Dave Phipps made the announcement Wednesday, following public and advisory coalition meetings on the closure of polling places. The number of precincts was reduced by almost half prior to the May 15th primary election. State law, the 2010 Census, and redistricting meant changes to precincts would be needed in all of Nebraska’s 93 counties.
