Nebraska sees spike in butterfly population

  OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Several Nebraska cities are seeing an abundance of butterflies.

The excitement has been building for weeks and weeks. On Monday, August 21st the solar eclipse will finally be here. It will darken the skies along a path from Oregon to South Carolina. It's the first eclipse that will be seen from coast to coast in 99 years. Millions will don special glasses or watch through pinhole projectors. Eclipse enthusiasts say totality never disappoints. Follow this live updating map tracking the position of the eclipse across the United States.

It is indeed dark during the day as a total solar eclipse makes its way from Oregon to South Carolina. Eleven states are in the path of total darkness. Follow the astronomical phenomenon's journey across America along with NPR journalists and others experiencing the eclipse.

RAVENNA, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska community has developed 125 lakeside campsites for people journeying to see the total eclipse of the sun next month.

On August 21st a total solar eclipse will occur. 

Women working in STEM jobs earn 33% more than those in non-STEM occupations.  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Science Cafe focuses on agriculture, livestock, horticulture

Beef and bees are the focus of UNMC’s latest Science Café.

Not many people are aware that a small lab in Nebraska is at the forefront of 3D printing prosthetic evolution.

The Nebraska Science Festival is a celebration of science of all types throughout the state. 

The first annual Nebraska Science Festival takes place April 12th through the 14th all over the city.

David Kriegler, an instructor of astronomy and physics at UNO, is the guest speaker for Tuesday’s Science Cafe.

Tonight’s Omaha Science Café explores science outside of the traditional classroom.

The University of Nebraska was recently awarded $980,000 from the U.S. Energy Department as part of its new nuclear energy innovation investments program. 

David Crouse, a professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy at UNMC, is the guest speaker. He says issues related to radiation and radiation exposure have always been in the public eye. Crouse says there's a great deal of knowledge about radiation and its effects, but since radiation can't be seen, tasted or heard, the public is fearful of it.
