At one time, there was a Husker flavor on the Omaha Storm Chasers roster.  Now it’s carrying over to the Kansas City Royals. 

Kansas City Royals All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon was back in the lineup Tuesday night after completing his rehab assignment in Omaha.

American star Serena Williams hopes to complete the Grand Slam of tennis at the U.S. Open next week in Flushing Meadow, New York.  She’s armed with victories this year at Wimbledon, the French Open and the Australian Open. But men’s tennis, on the other hand, has been dominated by players outside America.  There’s a Lincoln native who’d like to do something about that.

The day after suffering a severe groin injury on Wednesday night, Kansas City Royals All-Star outfielder and Husker alum Alex Gordon was on crutches at Kauffman Stadium. He hopes to be playing again in September.

Brian O’Connor finally got to enjoy a national championship close to his roots.  The head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers orchestrated a surprising result with a clinching 4-2 victory over Vanderbilt.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Surprise starter Adam Haseley and Josh Sborz combined on the shutout, senior utility man Thomas Woodruff drove in two runs, and the Cavaliers defeated Vanderbilt 3-0 on Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all game in the College World Series.

Before tonight’s game at TD Ameritrade Park, the late Lou Spry will be recognized.  The former NCAA executive, connected with the College World Series since the 1960s, died in March at his home in Louisiana.  He was 78.

Huskers softball advances to super regional

With their backs against the wall, the Huskers softball team responded with a pair of victories Sunday in Columbia, Missouri, to advance to a super regional in the NCAA  tournament.  The 19th ranked Huskers defeated Missouri, 11-4 and 8-1.
