Big Ten reprimands Pelini, fines Nebraska for comment

The Big Ten Conference has issued a public reprimand of Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini and fined the school $10,000 for Pelini's comments about the officiating in the Cornhuskers' game against Iowa last week.

Johnny Rodgers granted pardon

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Johnny Rodgers, the Heisman Trophy winner for Nebraska in 1972, has been granted a pardon for his role in the holdup of a Lincoln gas station in 1970.

Willingham expected on playoff panel

UNDATED (AP) — A person with knowledge of the process tells The Associated Press that former Notre Dame, Washington and Stanford coach Tyrone Willingham is expected to be on the College Football Playoff selection committee next year, and former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne has also been asked to be part of the panel.

There were two winners at the U.S. Senior Open when it concluded Sunday: Kenny Perry and the city of Omaha. Perry, who lives outside Nashville, Tennessee, has carried a tune in two straight majors: the Senior Players championship two weeks ago,  and the Senior Open at Omaha Country Club.  Omaha Public Radio’s Greg Echlin has the story on both winners.

U.S. Senior Open gets underway in Omaha

Since more than 4 million dollars of renovations at Omaha Country Club started eight years ago, the golf course was positioned to host something big.    The first golf major in the state of Nebraska officially started there Thursday morning with the opening round of the U.S. Senior Open.  The event could have...to use a golf analogy...hit the rough, but as Omaha Public Radio's Greg Echlin reports, it’s ready for its day in the sun.

MLB All-Star team includes Lincoln native, former Husker baseball star

It had been a long time since a major league baseball player born and bred in Nebraska became an All-Star. That is, until outfielder Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals was chosen for the American League squad over the weekend. And now, the fun for the Gordon family has only just begun.

With the end of the CWS, Dennis Poppe retires from NCAA

The College World Series title for UCLA Tuesday night was its first. But for Dennis Poppe it was his last championship.  From his NCAA office, Poppe has traveled to Omaha for the last 26 years as the supervisor of the event.  He’s retiring at the end of this year after 40 years with the NCAA.  But Poppe’s decision to step aside isn’t the only major behind-the-scenes change the last two years.
