On Sunday September 29th at 7:00PM KIOS will present The Band Radio Special. An in-depth look at one of rock music's most influential groups.
From their roots in rockabilly as the backing band for legend Ronnie Hawkins, to their years playing with Bob Dylan and their own rise to fame, The Band is one of the most celebrated and iconic groups of their time.
KIOS will once again air Toast of The Nation to ring in the New Year. The annual broadcast will begin New Year's Eve, December 31st at 8:00PM. An NPR tradition every New Year's since 1979, Toast of the Nation is perfect for the occasion. It's jazz you can party to, all night from coast to coast, with countdowns to midnight in all four continental time zones.Spirited, improvised, grooving, and swinging, each segment is a stop in a sequence of celebrations and contributing something new to the musical feast. Levon Helm Rambles Home: An Appreciation will air Sunday June 17th at 7:00PM. This one-hour special features music and commentary about the late musician Levon Helm, drummer for the seminal Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group, The Band, and a revered solo artist. Helm died on April 19th at the age of 71 from a recurrence of throat cancer. The program features Helms vocals and drumming with The Band, as well as some of his post-Band performances with special attention given to his Midnight Ramble concerts held in recent years at his home in Woodstock, NY.
